Jolene

I heard this song a few weeks ago at a club in Bethnal Green, and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. It’s an oldie, but I love it. This blog entry talks about the song, and how it’s managed to endure itself through the decades – yet, somehow it still seems fresh. Maybe that’s because of the candidness of her lyrics… She sings about a gorgeous red-head who was feigning interest in her husband (of the time). It’s interesting, how Dolly wrote the song to this women, and not to her husband. As if the husband doesn’t have any choice, because any man is impervious to Jolene’s charm…

P.S.  It’s much better than that White Stripes version.
