My Dolly Parton obsession continues… There’s a classic song from her greatest hits collection called ‘Islands in the Stream’. It’s a duet that features Kenny Rogers. So now this song has now gone Canadian! With Feist as Dolly Parton, and The Constantines singing the part of Kenny Rogers. What’s great about this cover is that neither of them are trying to emulate Dolly or Kenny’s voice, they’re just singing it in their own kind of way. The mark of a great cover for me is when an artist is able to do just that – internalize a classic, and then re-interpret it, making it their own but with still much respect to its original. 

If you don’t know this song, but you think you may recognize it, that’s probably because the chorus was sampled in the song ‘Ghetto Superstar’, back in tha day!
