Chinese Punk

I was in Beijing the summer of 2008 and found myself at a good amount of concerts, mostly centered around the city’s strong punk rock scene. Not my normal type of music at all, but why not?
Here’s a song called Voice of the People I remember hearing from Demerit, one of the leading bands in the scene. This studio version is definitely one of their most melodic and subdued pieces. It’s also in English.
I don’t know what brought me back to them today, but I think it’s a good reminder of how music is such a strong force around the world. The globalized nature of today’s world, especially in terms of culture and information, brings us some intriguing pairings of style and identity.
