YBP Guest Playlist: Neil Strauss

BAKER’S DOZEN
By Neil Strauss

Some make “mix tapes” to fit certain moods: there’s the party mix, the breakup mix, the driving mix. The hand-picked compilations that I find most compelling and lasting are the ones that take me on a journey. Like a plane leaving the gate, it takes a little while to pick up speed before taking off. Once in the air, there’s smoothness, there’s a little turbulence, and there’s the excitement of knowing you’re going somewhere new. And then, at the end, as you land, there’s that happy sad feeling of knowing you’re finally there, yet you’re beat. The journey has drained you, and all you want to do is grab your bag, get to a soft mattress with clean sheets, slip between them, and rest for the exhilarating unknown that lies ahead. The songs that follow have all been favorite tracks of mine at some point in the last decade–some for a few hours, others for months on end. Enjoy the trip….
